Dear Readers,

Many glass enthusiasts like working in their gardens almost as much as working with glass, so if there is a way to combine both, it becomes a stellar arrangement.  The GPQ Spring 2013 issue offers many selections that are either inspired by spring's legacy of growth or the budding garden in need of some permanent color. Regardless, one of the best things about Glass Patterns Quarterly is that we take the guess work out of the projects in every issue. The subscriber gets a compilation of tried- and-true patterns, supply lists, and step-by-step instructions.

Our gracious tutorial writers have worked on their projects from a number of angles in order to explain the steps to you in a way that is clear and precise. Many times our submitting authors are writing about one of their signature pieces that they have made many times and, in the process, have done the troubleshooting for you. It is a delightful exchange of information with the artist, writer, and reader all benefiting.

Talking about benefits, if you have been curious about attending one of our Glass Expert Webinars, there is no better time to experience our hands-on classes with no traveling required. These Web workshops are two-hour classes conducted online with the specific purpose of sharing techniques from a particular instructor's glass genre. To check for up-coming Webinar dates and times visit www.glasspatterns.com

Whether you are in search of a spring color infusion or an enjoyable source of ideas, at GPQ we are offering you many ways to catch the creativity bug and turn it loose for

all to enjoy,

This whimsical frog and his bee buddy make an unconventional, but nevertheless happy, pair enjoying their time together as they sit among a colorful floral bouquet. The design comes to us courtesy of Marianne Crivellaro's pattern book Wild Things, one of twelve complete books that are included in her collection.
The Ultimate Pattern Book, Volume 3. There are over 300 full-size beginner to intermediate suncatcher and small panel patterns included.

GirlInTheRainsmall.jpg
Design by Marianne Crivellaro
Children have such a wonderful time walking and playing in the rain, and this little girl, captured so beautifully by Marianne Crivellaro, is certainly no exception. The design was originally published in Marianne's book, More Little Women, and is now available as part of The Ultimate Pattern Book, Volume 2. This collection includes over 300 full-size beginner to intermediate suncatcher and small panel patterns that can also be used for mosaics or fused glass designs.

Reader's Corner!

We would like for you to meet, Rebecca Hite, Owner of Stained Glass Station in Lee's Summit, Missouri, 816.525.8088.  In the nine years Rebecca has operated her retail business, she has seen the balance of her business-shift, taken risks and tallied their outcomes, and observed a number of factors that shape and influence today's art glass retailing. Hite brings a mid-American retailer's perspective to the challenges facing the industry.

At some point in the future, Hite would like to purchase her own building with more than 3,500 square feet of space and a separate area for the kilns.  Every business opportunity involves risk, but Hite is taking her time to find an appropriate building. "I'm planning on being there for many, many years. People still crave art and avenues of self-expression." Hite anticipates mounting demand as people return to the satisfaction of creating with their own hands, eyes, and hearts rather than simply moving around electrons on ther electronic devices. She intends to be ready when that trend starts anew.
