Dear Readers,
Glass Gifts from the Heart- - -The Best of All!
If you are shopping for a friend or family member who seems to have everything, it can be quite a challenge, especially if you are trying to stay within a budget. One solution to both problems might be to make your own gifts this year. Within this issue are tutorials and galleries that give ideas for unique glass gifts you can make on a shoestring, including easy patterns for Christmas. For those of you who are feeling more adventurous, there are also larger, more advanced window designs. On our sixteen-page pattern sheet, you'll find both sides full of projects for every level of glass crafter.
The offerings in this issue reflect the fact that we have listened to our readers and pulled together more stained glass patterns while continuing to offer new techniques for fusing, glass combing in the kiln, mosaic, glass casting, enameling, metal clay, and etching. With each issue we strive to give you a full sampling of the many genres of glasswork in order to keep glass crafting challenging and fun!
You'll see projects come together by our experts within our step-by-step tutorials. Enjoy learning the tricks that make each project successful. Our teachers are seasoned glass instructors who wish to make your glass experience a pleasant one. We'll even give you the opportunity to tell us which projects in this issue were your favorites. Those of you who subscribe to Glass Patterns Quarterly will receive a quick survey in an upcoming Subscriber Benefits e-mail. Take the survey, and your name will be entered for a chance to win all four of our Best of GPQ CDs.
Now, here is a challenge for you. Visit our Facebook page or e-mail me and tell us which handmade gifts in glass you plan to make this year and the source for those ideas. If you have a favorite designer or pattern book, let us know and we'll share it with our readers. Let's give our designers the credit and recognition they deserve.
I hope you enjoy this issue and the harvest of ideas we have gathered. Remember, the earlier you begin your holiday crafting, the more time you'll have with family and friends over the holidays!
Happy glass crafting,
Maureen James
Editor in Chief

The best place to learn and enjoy glass is by taking a class at a local stained glass retailer. Here you'll meet people of like mind and similar interests. We would like for you to meet Jean Dryden, Joanne Bishop, and Julie Bishop Day, Owners of The Glass Workbench, in St Charles, MO. Glen and Joanne Bishop opened the store in 1975. Daughter, Jean Dryden now operates the business. A younger daughter, Julie Bishop Day, teaches classes and creates custom glass pieces along with David Hibbeler, an employee of almost 25 years. The initial hobby glass retail store has grown to emcompass a gift shop called Tiffany Garden, as well as to publish and wholesale design books and mosaic forms. To read more about The Glass Workbench, order a copy of Glass Art September/October 2011 magazine. Glass Art magazine provides inspiration and tips through the substantial profiles featured each quarter. In addition to these profiles, we also offer regular features on managing your glass business, marketing artwork, and keeping up with the latest glass industry news and new product announcements. Why not order a Subscription today for yourself or a gift subscription for that someone special on your Christmas list!
